EXHAUST REPAIRS IN MOLENDINAR

A louder car, a rattle underneath or a smell of fumes in the cabin all point back to the exhaust. It runs the length of the vehicle, so finding where the problem actually is comes before deciding what to replace.

What a failing exhaust sounds like

A blowing or ticking sound that gets louder under acceleration often means a leak at a joint, gasket or crack. A rattle over bumps can be a loose heat shield or a broken mount. Tell us when the noise happens and roughly where it seems to come from, because that narrows the inspection before the car goes up on the hoist.

  • A louder exhaust note than usual.
  • Rattles or knocks from under the car.
  • Exhaust smell inside the cabin.
  • A section hanging low or touching the body.

Repair or replace

Some exhaust faults are a gasket, a clamp or a mount. Others involve a section that has rusted through. The right fix depends on the condition of the surrounding pipework, because joining new parts to badly corroded ones rarely lasts. We will show you what we find and talk through the options before any work goes ahead.

Do not ignore fumes

Exhaust gas in the cabin is a safety concern, not just a nuisance. If you smell fumes inside the car, drive with fresh air coming in and book an inspection soon. Mention any warning lights too, since some exhaust faults affect sensors that the engine relies on. Contact Krakin Automotive at 5/1 Kamholtz Court, Molendinar QLD 4214 to arrange a look.

YOUR QUESTIONS.
STRAIGHT ANSWERS.

Why is my exhaust suddenly louder?

Usually a leak: a failed gasket, a cracked pipe or a muffler that has rusted through. An inspection on the hoist shows where it is coming from and what it will take to fix.

Can you fix a rattling exhaust?

Often yes. Rattles are commonly a loose heat shield, a broken hanger or a failing mount, which are usually smaller jobs than replacing pipework. Book an inspection so we can find the source.

Do you do aftermarket or performance exhausts?

Tell us the vehicle and what you have in mind when you enquire. Registered road vehicles in Queensland still need to meet the applicable noise and modification rules, so that is part of the conversation.

Is it safe to drive with an exhaust leak?

A leak near the engine or under the cabin can let fumes in, so get it checked soon. If you can smell exhaust inside the car, keep fresh air coming in and avoid long drives until it has been inspected.
